PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal projector capable of reducing smear by blinking a light source without limiting the flexibility of apparatus design, increasing the size of the apparatus, or reducing the durability or the service life of the apparatus. SOLUTION: A solid-state light source 1 is used as the light source. A lighting circuit 2 is provided, which blinks the solid-state light source 1 within one frame period of an input video signal.
