PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control logic for performing a pilot injection which can properly determine the necessity or nonnecessity of the pilot injection to a diesel engine capable of performing the pilot injection before a main injection. SOLUTION: A fuel injection controller determines whether the temperature of a compressed gas reaches the self-igniting temperature of a fuel or not by only a compressing operation in a compression stroke. When the temperature of the compressed gas reaches the self-igniting temperature of the fuel, the fuel injection controller determines that the pilot injection is not required, and prohibits the pilot injection. Consequently, the deterioration of exhaust emission and the deterioration of fuel consumption can be prevented by avoiding wasteful pilot injection. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
