PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which is suitably used for efficiently producing a compound which contains an amino group protected with a silyl group, and is useful as a synthetic intermediate for medicines and agrochemicals, a coating additive, and a polymer modifying agent. SOLUTION: This method for silylating the amino group includes using a sulfonic acid compound or a salt thereof as a catalyst in the method for silylating the amino group of an amino group-containing compound represented by general formula (1): R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>NH (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a hydrogen atom, or a 1-20C substituted or a 1-20C un-substituted monovalent hydrocarbon group, or R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>may mutually be bound and may form a 2-20C ring together with the nitrogen atom to which R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are bound) with a chlorosilane compound represented by general formula (2): R<SP>3</SP>R<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP>SiCl (wherein, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, and R<SP>5</SP>are each a hydrogen atom, a chlorine atom, or a 1-20C substituted or a 1-20C un-substituted monovalent hydrocarbon group; and R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>, or R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>may mutually be bound to form a 2-20C ring together with the silicon atom to which they are bound).
