An ion generation device, and its control method are provided to allow the generated amount of anions to be controlled by varying the impressed voltage. An ion generation device comprises a cation generating unit(30) which is supplied with an electric power to generate cations; an anion generating part(40) which is supplied with an electric power to generate anions; a voltage variable part(50) which varies the voltage supplied to the anion generating part; and a control part(70) which controls the voltage variable part according to the operation mode so as to control the generated amount of anions.
