PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device for outputting image data, by automatically correcting an arrangement direction of a preset transparent document. SOLUTION: When a transparent document B is set, the image reader 1 to which a transmitting unit 3 is preset for use reads the transparent document B and generates image data. This transparent document B includes an image region B0 and a specified region B1, allowing the type of film (ABCDEFG) B11, a format number B12, or the like, to be written in the specified region B1. The image reader 1 recognizes the letters of the type of film B11 and format number B12, described in the specified region B1 to decide on the inversion of the front and rear surfaces of the transparent document B and the inversion of the upper and lower sides and the right and left sides thereof. The image reader 1 corrects, with image processings, the inversion of the front and rear surfaces and the inversion of the upper and lower sides and the right and left sides of the input image data, when the inversion of the front and rear surfaces and the inversion of the upper and lower sides and the right and left sides of the transparent document B are detected.
