PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone device enabling an answering machine response according to a direct-dialing number by operatively connecting an answering machine function with a direct-dialing function. SOLUTION: The telephone device includes: a communication means enabling incoming calls by a plurality of incoming call numbers; an answering machine means for establishing a communication line automatically and accepting recording of voice messages from a call origination side, when a user does not perform any response operation even at a lapse of a prescribed amount of time after detecting incoming calls; an incoming call control means for detecting incoming number information transmitted from an exchanger when signals arrive using the communication means; and an operation control means for controlling operation of the answering machine means based on the received incoming call number information. The operation control means holds operation settings related to each incoming call number in advance. Then, when any signals arrives, an operation setting corresponding to the incoming signal number is read, thus instructing the answering machine means to operate based on the operation setting.
