PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of an internal combustion engine for securing an intake negative pressure capable of coping with a brake request of a drive even under such a condition that high acceleration is predicted when an engine starts. SOLUTION: This control device is mounted to a vehicle comprising a brake booster 28 using an intake negative pressure of an internal combustion engine as a boosting source, and increases a temperature of an exhaust emission control catalyst by controlling an ignition timing phase lag for delaying an ignition timing when an engine starts. The device comprises a gradient detection means 52 for detecting a gradient of a vehicle position, and an acceleration estimation means for estimating acceleration of the vehicle based on gradient information detected by the gradient detection means, and limits the ignition timing retard control when the acceleration estimated by the acceleration estimation means is not less than a predetermined value when the engine starts.
