PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method causing no problem of a water content change, a dimensional change, or the like without doing damage of cracking, discoloration, or the like to a wood material in a method of manufacturing a low VOC dissipating wood material by dehumidifying the wood material. SOLUTION: A wood material containing a volatile organic compound and having a water content of 1-30 mass% is used as a wood material to be treated. The water content of the wood material to be treated is measured beforehand, and heating and humidification are carried out while controlling an atmosphere to temperature and humidity to be substantially balanced with the water content, to eliminate the volatile organic compound contained in the wood material to be treated.
