Production of gypsum fiber board comprises forming a layer of slurry of ~B-gypsum hemihydrate and paper fibers. Vacuum is applied to the underside of this while its upper surface is sealed so that it is airtight. This compresses the layer at the same time as water is removed from it. Independent claims are included for: (A) apparatus for carrying out the method comprising slurry-producing units (1 - 5) and vacuum units (8, 9) with upper seal; and (B) gypsum fiber board produced using the method.
