The arrangement (1) has a translating gear wheel (3), whose effective diameter is varied for continuous translation change. A drive wheel (2) drives the wheel (3) and a drive unit (6) winds the wheels (2, 3). A tensioning device (7) tensions an endless drive component (6) that is designed as a chain (10), where a friction element is arranged at an outer side of an outer plate of the chain. The friction element causes an improved entrainment of the chain at the wheel (3). The wheel (2) is designed as a chain wheel, and is connected with a crankshaft in a fixed manner.
