The device has a breathing gas source, a control device and a connection device for connection with a patient interface. The control device has a step generator for pre-setting of intermittent change of pressure produced by the breathing gas source. The step generator changes the pressure to a pressure value (P2) during pressure adjustment based on another pressure value (P1). The step generator subsequently changes the pressure to third pressure value (P3). The control device is attached to a sensor for detecting measuring parameters. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a respiratory device.
