<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power loss by increasing friction coefficient (μ) at a contact surface between belt and pulley and reducing pulley nip pressure, while retaining wear resistance. <P>SOLUTION: The sliding material is used for a wet-type continuously variable transmission, and contains a resin serving as a matrix and mesophase pitch carbon fibers.
