PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of drive feeling while preventing a gear change shock at a gear change in a shift-up mode, and also to prevent the stall or the like of a vehicle on a climbing slope, in the vehicle with an engine and a transmission mounted thereon, and controlling the transmission by using a shift map. SOLUTION: In a change gear step determination means of a transmission control device, a change gear step is determined by using the shift map which is set according to the vehicle speed of the vehicle and an accelerator opening of the engine (S2). The transmission control device comprises a detection means (S7) for vehicle acceleration and an operation means (S9) for a vehicle drive force. When a target change gear step determined by the change gear determination means is the shift-up mode, if the vehicle acceleration is almost zero and the vehicle drive force after a gear change is larger than the present drive force, the gear change is executed. In the shift-up mode, since the vehicle acceleration is small, and the vehicle drive force is sufficiently large, the strong gear change shock is not generated at the gear change, and the stall of the vehicle does not occur even on the climbing slope.
