PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hollow engine valve with high quality and easy to design a hollow part shape and thickness, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: This hollow engine valve integrally comprises a valve umbrella part 3 and a valve shaft part 2, and has a hollow part 9 having an approximately same shape as an outer shape of an engine valve 1. A sealing part of the hollow part 9 is provided to the valve shaft part 2. A surface layer part 21 of the engine valve 1 is decarbonized, and coated with a plated layer 11. It is heated to a proper temperature, and only an inner layer part 22 is melted to be flow out and made hollow. Also, the plated layer 11 is heat-treated.
