A method for the production of a reactive additive (I) by the cleavage of protein-containing animal raw material by high-pressure thermolysis in aqueous medium at up to 250[deg] C and 220 bar, followed by separation of the aqueous solution phase and isolation of (I) from this, involves performing the thermolysis in several stages with temperature and pressure increases of 20-60[deg] C and 2-50 bar between stages and a residence time of 1-60 minutes in each stage. An independent claim is included for a reactive additive (I) obtained by this method, comprising a mixture of peptides and amino-acids in a wt. ratio of (0.1:1)-(10:1) with a molecular wt. distribution (MWD) of 0.13-150 kDa and an average mol. wt. structure of 0.5-40 kDa.
