The pedal unit has a base (12) relative to which a sprung pedal (10) can move. The spring unit is fitted between two mountings (e.g. 22), one on the base and the other on the pedal. At least one of these two mountings has a guide (26, 30) to assist the insertion of the spring unit by enabling it to move along the guide in the direction of the mounting.
