Class 80 (4) [Also in Group XXXVII] A device for preventing the rotation of a mass about an axis as a result of a shock or vibration and particularly applicable to electric circuit-breakers and contact makers comprises a rotary control member 5 adapted to be linked at 10 to the rotary mass to be actuated and having raised tenons 11, 12, 13, 14 on its surface adapted to be engaged by radially sliding weights 19, 20, 21, 22 in a fixed casing 1. The weights 19, 20, 21, 22 are acted upon by springs to be normally held clear of the tenons 11, 12, 13, 14 to allow free movement of the rotary control member 5. On the device being subjected to a shock or intense vibration, some or all of the weights are moved against their springs to enter the spaces between the tenons 11, 12, 13, 14 and lock the member 5 against movement. Additional locking weights 9 engaging in recesses 26, 27 in the tenons may be provided to move in a direction parallel to the axis of the rotary member 5. The control member 5 has secured to it an eccentric weight 6 which, by virtue of its inertia, may be arranged to delay any rotation of member 5 before the weights 19, 20, 21, 22 have had time to come into action. The weight 6 is also provided with recesses 7, 8 which co-operate with the weight 9 to provide limiting positions of the control member 5 corresponding, for example, to limiting positions of a switch member coupled thereto. Various other forms and arrangements of the blocking weights are described. The device may be conveniently applied to existing switches by replacing one bearing support of the switch-actuating spindle by a member incorporating the device. |
