A vehicle 2 having a side impact warning means 4 comprises at least four sensors with two of the sensors being front sensors 6 which are positioned one on either side of a front part of the vehicle and two of the sensors being rear sensors 8 which are positioned one on either side of a rear part of the vehicle 2, the sensors being such that they transmit a beam which activates an alarm means on the vehicle 2 consequent upon the beam being broken, and the sensors being short range sensors with a range that is sufficiently short so as not to be activated by other objects at normal safe distances from the vehicle 2 but to be activated when the other objects are too close and there is a danger of a side impact. |
