A method for generating documentation for a building control system represented by contents in a database, the method composing the steps of: creating a plurality of objects (212-217) that form contents in the database (104), assigning to each object (212-217) properties representative of a building control object, assigning textual information (242, 243) to the objects (212-217), creating connections (218, 218') between the objects (212-217), and automatically generating the documentation by traversing the objects (212-217) in the database (104) and collecting data pertaining to the objects (212-217) in the database (104), and inserting the data in a documentation object.
