The invention relates to an encoder (5; 205), comprising a rotor (25; 225), a stator (6; 206) including a scanning unit (40), a cable (70, 270) and a cover (110; 310) overmoulded onto the stator (6; 206) and the cable (70, 270). The scanning unit (40) is sealed from an outer environment by the cover (110; 310) and the cable (70, 270) is strain relieved by the cover (110; 310). Furthermore, an encoder system and a method for manufacturing an encoder are subject matters of the invention.
