The method involves utilizing a predetermined programming system for programming a programmable logic controller. Variables are predetermined within the programming system and used for programming information exchange sequences (10). Results of the programming during a programming mode are outputted by a display device, and the information exchange sequences are associated to a memory programmable functional module, where the memory programmable functional module is provided as the predefined information exchange sequences.
