Cumene is oxidized in liquid phase with oxygen in contact with solid calcium carbonate with or without added solid sodium carbonate, to give high yields of cumene hydroperoxide. In examples the rates of reaction when various proportions of calcium carbonate, sodium carbonate, and barium carbonate, and mixtures of calcium and sodium carbonate in proportions of 3:1, 2:2, and 1:3, are employed and the yields are compared. Preferred temperatures are 80 DEG -110 DEG C. |
