An internal combustion engine has laser beam (4) ignition within the combustion chamber (10). The laser beam is introduced to the cylinder through a window (3) held in situ by a structural element (1) from which it is detachable. The laser window has an optical window (5) attached to the structural element and partly covered by the combustion chamber window (3).
