A catalyst regenerator comprises a regenerator vessel housing dense phase catalyst bed, a central upright standpipe portion for receiving spent catalyst to be regenerated, and a center well receiving a lower end of standpipe portion and defining an annulus with the standpipe portion. A valve controls the introduction of spent catalyst from the standpipe portion into the annulus. A catalyst regenerator comprises: (a) a regenerator vessel housing dense phase catalyst bed (122), (b) a central upright standpipe portion for receiving spent catalyst to be regenerated, (c) a center well (204) receiving a lower end of the standpipe portion and defining an annulus (202) between the standpipe portion and inside diameter of the center well, (d) a valve for introducing spent catalyst through the standpipe portion into the annulus, (e) a fuel distributor for introducing fuel into the center well for mixing with the catalyst in the annulus, (f) a fluidization distributor for introducing fluidization gas into the center well for fluidizing the catalyst in the annulus, (g) a radial slot formed in the center well for introducing the catalyst and fuel mixture from the annulus into the dense phase bed below its upper surface, (h) an air distributor disposed in the dense phase bed subjacent to the radial slot for introducing combustion air into the dense phase bed, (i) a catalyst discharge outlet connected with the dense phase bed and (j) an off-gas discharge outlet connected with a dilute phase above the dense phase bed. An independent claim is also included for a method of converting an original fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit of side-by-side configuration to a converted FCC unit for processing light feedstock, by replacing the original regenerator of the FCC unit with the new regenerator. |
