A turbocharger, eg the low-pressure turbocharger 18 of a two-stage turbocharger system 17,18, is mounted on an engine by a mounting arrangement comprising spaced apart first and second connections. The first connection comprises at least one first connection element such as a hooked lug 33 and at least one bar, eg mounting bolt 44 extending across the channel 40 of a mounting bracket 37 attached to the engine crankcase 50. The lug 33 is hooked over the bolt 44 which takes the weight of the turbocharger while the second connection, which comprises second and third connector elements, eg further lug 34 and second bolt 45, are secured together. The first connection 33, 44 allows for movement of the turbocharger 18 relative to the engine in order to bring the second and third connector elements into register for securement. The recess 35 in the hook 33a of the lug 33 provides a clearance in a direction transverse to the axis so as to accommodate thermal expansion movement of the first connection element 33 relative to the bolt 44 in a direction towards or away from the second connection after the second connection 34,45 is made. |
