A bottle 10 is made of biodegradable material and has a plurality of collapsible pleats 15, 19, 20, 21, adjacent pleats having regions of weakness which are circumferentially staggered, to promote collapse of the bottle in a controlled and pre-determined way. Preferably the regions of weakness are located on a helix running around the bottle circumference. The collapsible pleats may of differing diameter. The regions of weakness may be arranged such that a middle portion of the bottle collapses before a lower portion, and the lower portion before a top portion. The regions of weakness may be troughs 15b the depth of which varies around the circumference of the bottle. |
