The present invention provides a skate sharpening apparatus. The skate sharpening apparatus includes a housing. A fixed, longitudinally extending ice skate blade supporting member is mounted in the housing. A movable longitudinally extending ice skate blade supporting member, which is spaced transversely from the fixed, longitudinally-extending ice skate blade supporting member is also mounted in the housing. A clamp is provided for retaining the ice skate blade between the fixed, longitudinally extending ice skate blade supporting membe r and the movable longitudinally extending ice skate blade. A supporting member supports a grinder electric motor having a drive shaft driven by the electric motor. A grinding wheel is operatively coupled to the motor for rotating said grinding wheel in a grinding plane, said grinding wheel having a formed grinding surface for sharpening the hollow ground edge of the blade, the center of the formed grinding surface being in a grinding plane during the rotation. The grinder electric motor is operationally associated with guide rods for to-and-fro guided longitudinal movement with the grinding wheel in grinding contact with the ice skate blade. A travel electr ic motor operatively associated with one of said guide rods for effecting the to-and-fro longitudinal movement with the grinding wheel in grinding contact with said ice skate blade. Means are provided for actuating the travel motor to cause said to-and-fro longitudinal movement with the grinding wheel in grinding contact with the ice skate blade.
