摘要 A reforming catalyst is prepared by impregnating a support with Ge and Pt (and/or Pd) compounds, heating at above 800, preferably 900 DEG -1,800 DEG F. to form 0,1-10% of a Ge+Pt (and/or Pd) solid solution on the support, the solid solution containing at least 5% of each constituent. The preferred catalyst support is A12O3, SiO2 or SiO2-A12O3; listed also are bentonite, bauxite, clays, kieselguhr, zeolites, magnesia, zirconia and thoria. The impregnated support may be heated in a reducing atmosphere (e.g. containing hydrogen), for example, prior to heating at 900 DEG -1,800 DEG F. The catalyst, which may or may not contain halides such as chloride and fluoride, is used in reforming petroleum naphtha, e.g. at 700 DEG -1,050 DEG F. and 0,1-10 VHSV.ALSO:A reforming catalyst is prepared by impregnating a support with Ge and Pt (and/or Pd) compounds, heating at above 800, preferably 900-1800 DEG F. to form 0.1-10% of a Ge + Pt (and/or Pd) solid solution on the support, the solid solution containing at least 5% of each constituent. The preferred catalyst support is Al2O3, SiO2 or SiO2-Al2O3; listed also are bentonite, bauxite, clays, kieselguhr, zeolites, magnesia, zirconia and thoria. The impregnated support may be heated in a reducing atmosphere (e.g. containing hydrogen), for example, prior to heating at 900-1800 DEG F. The catalyst, which may or may not contain halides such as chloride and fluoride, is used in reforming petroleum naphtha, e.g. at 700-1050 DEG F. and 0.1-10 V.H.S.V. Light naphtha may be reformed at 875-970 DEG F. in absence of added hydrogen, the primary reaction being dehydrogenation. Alternatively, light petroleum naphtha is hydroisomerised at 700-1050 DEG F. in the presence of added hydrogen. Examples describe reforming (no added H2) a 90:10 (by volume) n-heptane/toluene mixture and hydroisomerising a 50:50 (by weight) n-pentane/n-hexane mixture as well as n-pentane alone.
