704,474. Washing granular materials. HARDINGE CO., Inc. April 23, 1951 [May 3, 1950], No. 9374/51. Class 82 (2) In a heavy medium separation process for ores, ore, medium and water are fed separately to a tank, the sink material is moved mechanically to discharge out of the tank, and a countercurrent of medium carries the light material in the opposite direction. The discharged medium may be thickened before being returned for re-use, and by arranging for different proportions of medium and water at two distinct entry points, a difference in density of the separating medium is obtainable at different parts of the tank. As shown, an inclined tank 4 for carrying out the process is rotatable by driving rollers 27, and a spiral 31 carries sink material up the tank, ore, medium and water being supplied by the launder 32 and nozzles 33 and 34 respectively. A counter-current of medium and water supplied at 35 and 36 carries light material over a discharge weir 37. Specification 463,503 is referred to.
