The invention provides a mobile telephone which simulates a land-line telephone when making a call. On receiving a predetermined input at a user interface (UI) of the mobile telephone, a dialling tone is provided. Subsequently a called party number can be dialled and a call between the mobile telephone and a called party terminal can be established. The predetermined input can be a key press or opening of a clamshell type telephone. The mobile telephone may provide a choice between call set-up modes. Number analysis is carried out to determine a valid called party number before dialling out.
