The invention concerns configuring ports of radio equipments (RE) connected to an internal network of a base station of a mobile communications network, e.g. according to the common public radio interface (CPRI) specification. A method comprises: activating at least one port of the radio equipment (RE); changing the state of the port to a non-connected slave (NCS) state in which the port listens to a communication on a link of the internal network for a time period; and, upon detection the communication, changing the state of the port a connected slave state (CS), or upon expiry of the time period, changing the state to a non-connected master state (NCM). Hence, ports of the radio equipment are dynamically configurable as master or slave ports in reaction to the behaviour of the network. A port of a corresponding radio equipment controller (REC) may be configured in a wait state and to detect attempts for link set up of an RE physically connected to that port. Such an REC is well suited for use in an internal network having ring redundancy. |
