An electronic component and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to protect one surface of a flat part of a lead terminal by attaching a protective sheet to an isolation sheet in contact with the flat part of the lead terminal. An electronic component includes an element(12) and a lead terminal(3). The element is formed by winding a plurality of electrode foils and a plurality of isolation sheets. The lead terminal is fixed to each of the electrode foils. The isolation sheets are inserted between the electrode foils. A flat part having a predetermined width is formed at the lead terminal. The element includes protective sheets in order to improve electrical insulating performance between the electrode foils. Each of the protective sheets is attached to each of the isolation sheets in contact with at least one surface of the flat part of the lead terminal.
