A device and a method for processing a signal, and a program and a medium are provided to control a playback state of image contents by using information for an image contents viewing status or an audio contents listening status. A contents obtainer(18) receives or accumulates contents by using stream data. A feature vector extractor extracts a feature vector of the obtained contents. A detector(14) detects a viewing or listening time of the obtained contents. A processor calculates an extraction state of the extracted feature vector, and calculates and outputs contents viewing or listening status information determined by the viewing or listening time.
