The present invention relates to hair conditioning or detangling composition s comprising from about 0.01 percent to about 2.0 percent by weight of a quaternary ammonium compound of the formula: (see above formula) and from about 0.01 percent to about 2.0 percent by weight of a silicone compound, wherein R is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or alkenyl group having from about 11 to about 35 carbon atoms, X is - O- or N-R5, R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted alkylene group having from about 2 to about 6 carbon atoms, R2, R3 and R4 are each independently an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group having from about 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, R5 is H or CH3, and A, is chloride; bromide; alkylsulfate containing from about one to about two carbon atoms; or mixtures thereof.
