Class 20 (3) A pillar for a vehicle body has an outer section 13 comprising a base 17 and integrally formed side flanges 15, 16 extending inwardly from opposite sides of the base, an inner section 14 having an intermediate longitudinally extending portion 19 offset outwardly from the inner marginal edges of flanges 15, 16, and inwardly extending side flanges 26, 27, the flanges 15, 26, and 16, 27, being arranged in juxtaposition and secured together. A pair of windcords 31, each having a cylindrical sponge rubber-sealing portion 32 and a smaller beaded portion 33 of rubber or cording, spaced from portion 32 and connected by a reinforcing strip 36, the whole being covered by fabric 37, are assembled to the pillar with the strips 36 at right angles to the side flanges 15, 26, and 16, 27. A plurality of vertically spaced tabs struck from the portion 19 are bent to engage the beaded portions 33 to retain them in place during assembly and subsequently a trim panel 38 secured to the portion 19 by clips 42 engaging apertures therein, permanently secures the windcords 31.</p> |
