A direct memory access controller for improving data transmission efficiency in an MMoIP(Multi-Media over Internet Protocol) and a method thereof are provided to shorten the time for requiring DMA(Direct memory Access) by using the periodicity of audio video data. A timer(820) operates for a preset cycle based on the acquisition of a bus control right, and a DMA request detecting unit(800) detects the reception of a DMA request signal in an external module and the completion of the timer operation. Based on the reception of the DMA requirement signal and the completion of the DMA operation, a bus control right acquisition unit(810) acquires the bus control right. A data transmitting unit(830) transmits data through a DMA method.
