A video recording system and a method thereof capable of installation and execution of a software module for increasing the effectiveness of monitoring are provided to perform various digital video surveillance functions without the change of the digital video recording system and perform the upgrade of the software module. A software module storing unit(14) stores a plurality of software modules having a software module storage. A software module selecting unit(13) selects a software module transmitted with each image monitoring camera. A software module transmitting unit(12) transmits the software module selected in the software module selecting unit than in each image monitoring camera. A software module execution result output unit outputs the software module execution result transmitted from each image monitoring camera.
