An apparatus and a method for controlling street light are provided to control the brightness of street light at night in order to optimize growth environment for crops near the street light. An apparatus for controlling street light comprises an object sensing unit(130), a speed measuring unit(140), a controller(160) and a street light controller(180). The object sensing unit senses the presence of objects and generates object sensing information. The speed measuring unit measures the speed of moving object and generates speed information of the moving object. The controller analyzes the speed information of the moving object and object sensing information in order to produce street light controlling information according to the speed of the moving object. The street light controller controls the brightness of the street lights according to the controlling information outputted from the controller. |
