The method involves capturing an image representing a digital authentication code (115), and determining conditions for capturing the image. An error rate of the digital authentication code represented by the captured image is determined. Authenticity of the digital authentication code is determined relative to the error rate and the capturing conditions. The determination of the conditions is carried out by determining a value representing a capturing quality of the image or capturing blur of the image. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for reading a digital authentication code (2) a computer program comprising instructions to perform a method for reading a digital authentication code (3) an information medium comprising instructions to perform a method for reading a digital authentication code.
