An insert for roughing comprises an insert body, and a wave-form edge formed at the intersecting ridge between the face and the flank of the insert body and being irregular along the intersecting ridge. The wave-form edges are formed on the insert body at rotational symmetric positions at predetermined angular intervals around the reference line of the insert body. The wave-form edges located at the rotational symmetric positions are formed such that at least part thereof does not coincide but becomes asymmetric when the insert body is rotated through the predetermined angle around the reference line.
