The method involves determining a position of a plane defining a surface (12) of volume (11) of oil in a parallelepiped shaped oil pan (10), with respect to the oil pan, from co-ordinates of three non-aligned points (J1-J3) of the surface in a mark connected to the oil pan, where the co-ordinates of the points are obtained from linear position sensors i.e. resistive type linear gauges (22, 23), placed on a wall of the oil pan. The volume of the oil in the pan is deduced. |
