PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor and an image processing method capable of detecting a center zone of a target object. SOLUTION: The image processor 3 includes a CCD camera 30 for photographing an occupant 2, and a control section 34 for detecting the eyes of the occupant 2 by processing image data 4 of the image photographed by the CCD camera 30. The control section 34 performs filter processing using a horizontal filter 50 and a vertical filter 51 against the image data 4, and calculates vector 5 on the basis of horizontal components 50a and vertical components 51a calculated by the filter processing. The control section 34 adds up the magnitude P of the vector 5 by the predetermined number of pixels against all the pixels 6 forming the image data 4, and detects the center zone of the target object on the basis of the adding-up value.
