PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform periodic communication of an abnormality monitor signal including question information and answer information while performing periodic communication of some input/output signal at a relatively high frequency between a main control circuit section and a monitoring control circuit section. SOLUTION: The onboard electronic control unit having the monitoring control circuit is configured to connect the main control circuit section 20A and monitoring control circuit 30A to each other through serial interface circuit 27a and 37a, to perform high-speed full-duplex block communication using a communication acknowledgement signal ALT and a communication synchronizing signal CLK, to repeatedly transmit the question information included in up communication information UPD as many times as a plurality of times and update the question information to new question information after transmitting it as many times as the plurality of times, and to reply answer information by the main control circuit section 20A with down communication information DND within a predetermined period after the question information is updated and changed, thereby lightening the control load on the main control circuit section 20A through the extension of the question update period.
