PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving hair qualities that sufficiently imparts all of arrangeability, smoothness, softness and a finger-combing property (sliding property) to the hair. SOLUTION: The method for improving hair qualities comprises applying a hair cosmetic comprising a branched fatty acid represented by general formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a methyl group or an ethyl group; and n is an integer of 3-36) or a salt thereof at least two times with an interval of at least 3 hours between an application and the next application to the hair during which the hair cosmetic is kept unwashed.
