PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an attachment and a detachment method of a pipe connection member that can secure an arrangement space of a valve device in the periphery of flanges between a branch portion of an existing pipe and the pipe connection member in such a state that the pipe connection member having a flange proximity part is mounted on the branch part of the existing pipe. SOLUTION: This attachment and detachment method includes the process of cutting the flange proximity part 7a in the pipe connection member 3 near flanges 4, 5 where the branch part 2 and the pipe connection member 3 are connected, the process of mounting the valve device 27 having a valve body on both flanges 4, 5 water-tightly, the process of inserting the valve body into a gap by providing the gap between both flanges 4, 5, and the process of removing the pipe connection member 3 from the branch part 2 with the branch part 2 put into a water-stop state by the valve body.
