PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a compact zoom lens having excellent optical performance; and optical equipment in which the zoom lens is mounted; and an imaging method. SOLUTION: The zoom lens ZL includes: a first lens group G1 having positive refractive power; a second lens group G2 having negative refractive power; a third lens group G3 having positive refractive power; and a fourth lens group G4 having positive refractive power, which are arranged in order from an object side along an optical axis. The third lens group G3 includes a front group G3F including a positive lens L31, a negative meniscus lens L32 tuning its convex surface to the object side and a positive lens L33, and having positive refractive power, and a negative meniscus lens L34 turning its convex surface to the object side, which are arranged in order from the object side, wherein any one of three surfaces, that means, the object-side and image-side lens surfaces of the positive lens L31 and the object-side lens surface of the negative meniscus lens L32 is an aspherical surface, and any one of three surfaces, that means, the object-side lens surface of the positive lens L33 and the object-side or the image-side lens surface of the negative meniscus lens L34 is an aspherical surface.
