PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-spherical alumina-silica composite sol which is excellent in filling property, oil-absorbing property, electrical properties, optical properties or physical properties because non-spherical alumina-silica composite fine particles contained in the non-spherical alumina-silica composite sol each has a peculiar structure different from that of a normal non-spherical silica fine particle, and which is useful, for example, as a polishing material and a composition for polishing and excellent especially in the effect on the polishing speed. SOLUTION: In the non-spherical alumina-silica composite sol, non-spherical alumina-silica composite fine particles having an average particle diameter within a range of 3-150 nm, measured by a dynamic light scattering method, a minor diameter/major diameter ratio within a range of 0.01-0.8, and a specific surface area within a range of 10-800 m<SP>2</SP>/g, and each having a plurality of wart-like projections on its surface are dispersed in a dispersion medium.
