<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent fuel steam from being discharged from a canister to the atmosphere while reducing the operation frequency of an internal combustion engine, with respect to a hybrid automobile using the internal combustion engine and a motor in combination. <P>SOLUTION: A detecting device which can detect fuel steam being discharged from a first canister 12 to the atmosphere even when the internal combustion engine 100 is in a stop state, is used to start a drive of the internal combustion engine 100 and also start purging when it is detected that the fuel steam is discharged from the first canister 12 to the atmosphere.
