A backlight unit and a driving method capable of controlling the white zone of a color coordinate are provided to vary a white zone desiring based on the color coordinate and control the white zone of a color coordinate. A backlight unit(155) comprises a light emitting diode package and a light source driving unit. A plurality of light-emitting diode packages comprises a first and a second blue light emitting chip, and a red or the yellow fluorescent material coated on the first blue light emitting chip and the green-emitting phosphor coated on the second blue light emitting chip. The light source driving unit supplies a different driving signal to the first light-emitting diode package and the second blue light emitting chip and varies the driving signal. The light-emitting diode package is the red or the yellow fluorescent material and the structure in which the green-emitting phosphor is separated. |
