A variable tappet for VVL and CDA is provided to reduce the weight of an engine and design the engine compactly by reducing the thickness of a cylinder head. A variable tappet for VVL and CDA comprises: a cam shaft(10) having a pair of high cams(14) and a low cams(12) between a pair of high cams and rotating the cams; a tappet housing(20) of a cylindrical form being installed at the lower part of the high cams inside a cylinder head; a retainer(25) vertically moving inside the tappet housing; a return spring(23) located inside the tappet housing between the upper inner walls of the tappet housing and the retainer; a low tappet body(22) being mounted on the upper side of the retainer and being extended upward; and a fixing unit(27) fixing the retainer to the lower part of the tappet housing.
